Kudos to Sarah Nixon of My Luscious Backyard for being featured in Saturday’s “Style” section of the Globe and Mail. For the past two years Sarah has provided during the Spring and Summer months flower arrangements for GCI. What is particularly wonderful about Sarah’s arrangements is that the flowers come from home gardenes in downtown Toronto. Sarah’s company is a new take on the “eat local” theme. In this case “flower bouquet local”. GCI is committed to being as green as we can and Sarah’s beautiful arrangements from local downtown gardens are beautiful and an important part of our commitment.

Recently I was in Asia on vacation and had the opportunity to spend a week in Hanoi. A friend, an academic, was invited to teach a workshop on corporate social responsibility at the National Economics University and asked me to come for the trip and also suggested I participate in the workshop to provide the corporate view on CSR to compliment her academic view. It was a great two days in the workshop. The students were particularly interested and Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Certainly the thousands of motorbikes barrelling through the streets and the always present cell phones were an indicator that this is a country on the rise with a very young and keen population. CSR was a new concept for some in the class and there was particular interest in sustainability and community based partnerships led by corporations. The classroom exchange was certainly dynamic and they loved that I “tweeted” during the workshop and even shot some video on the my trust Flip camera.
